Common questions

Does Flashstub need an account?

No. There is nothing to sign up for. Open the app and scan.

Where are my receipts stored?

On your iPhone, in the app's own storage. They are never uploaded. If you want them somewhere else, use Settings → Export Expenses as PDF and share the report to email, Files, or any app you like.

Which permissions does it ask for, and are they required?

Every permission can be changed later in the iPhone Settings app under Flashstub.

It read the total wrong. What do I do?

On the capture card, tap the yellow box for the wrong field. It clears and a chip appears. Then tap the printed line on the receipt where the right value is, and Flashstub reads that line instead. For a hard-to-read receipt, pinch to zoom, pan the value into the yellow bar and tap Read. Or open Edit details and type it.

Why does the camera open by itself?

The Capture tab is camera-first so a receipt is one motion away. Close the camera with the ✕ and it stays closed until you come back to the tab.

How does mileage tracking work?

Under Capture → Track Mileage, turn on Detect drives automatically. Flashstub uses motion activity to tell driving from walking and records GPS only while you are driving. Finished drives appear under Drives to classify; mark one Business and it becomes a mileage expense at the federal GSA rate (or your own rate from Settings). You can also start and stop a drive by hand.

How does it know which client a receipt is for?

When you classify a drive as Business for a client, Flashstub remembers where that drive ended as the client's place. Later receipts scanned there, and drives ending there, are matched to that client and shown as Matched. You can change it on the spot, and Settings → Clients lets you rename or forget a place.

What is the "reader model" download in Settings?

On iPhones with Apple Intelligence (iPhone 15 Pro and newer), Apple's on-device model helps fill in fields the reader missed. Older iPhones can download a small open model once (about 0.9 GB) and run it on the phone the same way. It is optional, and the receipt text never leaves the device either way.

How do I delete my data?

Open an expense and tap Delete Expense to remove it and its receipt image. Swipe a client in Settings → Clients to forget a place. Deleting the app removes everything Flashstub stored.
